I have found the HIVAMAT® to be a wonderful tool.  It helps loosen fibrosis expecially after a patient has begun to plateau with manual lymph drainage.  I like to use the analogy of using HIVAMAT® during manual lymph drainage to suing a Sonicare toothbrush.  It accents the manual lymph drainage to increase lymphangiomotoricity and loosen fibrosis.  It is a great adjunct tool to complete lymphedema treatment.

The HIVAMAT® has become our treatment of choice for nearly all of the musculoskeletal injuries and lymphedema patients that we see. It has also greatly improved the efficacy of the other modalities that we use. I was initially a skeptic, but the first two patients that were treated to demonstrate the unit (a post op lumbar discectomy and post arthroscopic degenerative knee), both walked out pain free. Since then, I have used it on all types of patients with equally phenomenal results. I used it on a quadriplegic patient (incomplete lesion) and relieved his nine month history of bilateral shoulder tendonitis in one treatment. After treating his cervical area several times, he had an onset of sensory return in his lower extremities. In my experience, nearly all of the patients that receive the HIVAMAT® treatment receive significant pain relief. We are getting referrals now specifically for the HIVAMAT and it has proven to be a valuable marketing tool and an asset to our practice. In my 27 years as a physical therapist, I have seen a lot of modalities come and go. But HIVAMAT® therapy is a breakthrough that I believe will be around a long time.

We have used the HIVAMAT® for about a month and already are finding its usefulness beyond expectations. Some examples include immediate decrease in post surgical shoulder swelling giving 40 degrees increase in previously painful motion, tolerance to resisted exercise for guarded tennis elbow in one session and patient expressed relaxation of spasming back muscles allowing for increased range of motion. With insurance restrictions abounding, it’s great to have a piece of equipment that is this effective.

I am writing to tell you of the wonderful results that we are achieving with our patients since we have begun to use the HIVAMAT as part of their therapy programs.  Currently we are using the HIVAMAT on a variety of patient diagnosis and conditions and find that it is producing both positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction.

One particular case that stands out in my mind is that of an elderly female patient who was admitted to the Inpatient Rehab Unit with the diagnosis of new transtibial amputation.  The patient was experiencing severe pain in the involved lower extremity, to the extent that she could not tolerate anyone touching the leg or mobilizing the knee joint.  The involved distal extremity presented with an incision that had a small open, draining area and surrounding skin that was darkly discolored and cool to the touch.  Increased edema was present throughout the lower extremity.  The patient’s vascular surgeon voiced concerns that these symptoms indicated a poor ability to heal.  He was concerned that he may have to schedule additional surgery for a revision with advancement to a transfermoral amputation.

HIVAMAT treatments were initiated and well tolerated by the patient; with her voicing that she felt pain relief for the first time since her surgery.  After the first treatment she was able to participate in the therapy regime for the first time since arriving on the Rehab Unit.  The patient was treated daily for a week, with marked improvement noted in both pain control and skin coloration.  Edema began to subside, and the skin became warm to the touch.  The patient’s vascular surgeon was extremely pleased with the treatment results and that no additional surgery was necessary.

The patient has progressed in her therapy program and now has been fitted with a prosthetic let.  She is currently in training with the prosthesis and able to walk for short distances.

This patient is very pleased with the outcome of her therapy program and states “it’s all because of that machine” as the reason why she is doing so well.  I just wanted to share with you this great success story.

I have been using HIVAMAT® on a middle aged woman with chronic low back pain.  She had back surgery a little over a year ago and has been living on pain killers ever since.  Her dysfunction has limited her ability to work such that she is in the process of applying for disability.  The doctor sent her to me for Strain Counterstrain treatment because regular exercise-based treatment was not helping her.  While I have only treated her twice with HIVAMAT®, she is excited by the fact that she feels significantly less pain and has not had to consume so many pain pills. 

I am very excited about the benefits of using the HIVAMAT® 200.  If I was sales oriented, I would be asking you for a job because this is something I could sell!  As a physical therapist, though, I reap a huge reward in seeing the look in my patient’s faces when they tell me how good they feel.  To me, that’s everything!
